Frans Luycx

Frans Luycx or Luyckx, Luycks, Leuycx, Leux, Lux, Luix, Leic, Laix, Leix, Lieix, Löx, Likh (before 17 April 1604 – 1 May 1668) was a Flemish Baroque artist who became the leading court painter at the imperial court of Emperor Ferdinand III in Vienna. He is most famous for his portraits of Emperor's family and court.
==Biography==

Frans Luycx was baptized on 17 April 1604 in the Court Church in Antwerp. His father, Adam Luycx, was a silk cloth merchant, his mother's maiden name was Johanna de Rasieres. In 1618 he joined the workshop of Remakel Sina and after the two-year apprenticeship, the workshop of Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony van Dyck.
Starting from 1637 the painter's contacts with the court of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth monarch, Władysław IV Vasa, are confirmed in accounts preserved in Stockholm (his name being spelled as Luix). The King himself probably visited the artist's atelier during his visit to Vienna in 1638. The 1640 settlement says about the payment by Polish agent in Vienna to "Leic, painter, for three effigies".〔 Also Prince John Casimir Vasa benefited from his services before 1643 adorning his residence in Nieporęt (Samuel von Sorgen has paid the unknown painter in Vienna more than 2,520 florins "ad ratione altars to Nieporęt").〔 Among the notable Polish court commissions are beautiful portraits of Władysław IV and his wife Cecilia Renata of Austria (Wilanów Palace in Warsaw, Museum of Art in Łódź, Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna and Alte Pinakothek in Munich)〔Inventory number 4197
〕 and a portrait of King Władysław the Elbow-high, probably one from a cycle, lost during the World War II (Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden).
According to the RKD he is known for miniatures and being court painter to Ferdinand III of Austria.〔(Frans Luycx ) in the RKD
